As a young boy in the 1950's I first visited towns along the Texas/Mexico border with my parents. That started a love affair with a country that I have visited all of my life; writing and photographing my first article about Mexico in Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo in 1976. I have traveled and written about Mexico, her people, her cultures and her cuisines for over 35 years.
As a magazine publisher I used my experiences in Mexico to launch Mexico Travel & Life magazine and spent increasingly more time there to build my knowledge of the country and her varied cuisines while writing about them for English-speaking North American audiences. I am an avid explorer of her archaeological and UNESCO World Heritage sites and am an enthusiastic explorer of her cuisines; learned region by region and town by town.
I have published many magazines over the years of my 35 year career as a writer/publisher, such as Performing Arts Houston; Theatre and the Performing Arts; Co-founder of Performing Arts; Houston Restaurant Business; Post Oak Boulevard; Mexico Travel and Life; Philanthropy In Texas (now Philanthropy World). All of these have given me great pleasure and have brought me to this point in my life.
Hopefully, these little vignettes of Mexican life and history, mixed with her unique and exciting foods, wines and spirits will interest you as much as they interest me and that you will all respond with your trip comments and recipe requests.

Jack, I'm ashamed of you! You forgot to mention "Museum and Arts" magazine. Boy, those were the good ole days, weren't they? Glad to see things are going good for you. Frankly, I'm glad he's dead. You know who I'm talking about. I'll probably go to hell for that, but I'll see him there.
I think that you and I should go down to Oaxaca with Hugo and hang with Ron Cooper. We can drink some Mezcal Del Maguay and take in some serious Mole.
I met Jack Tyler for the first time just 5 days ago on the way to Chiapas, Mexico. He was one of 5 invited to experience San Cristobal De Las Casas and the surrounding region. Jack was a fasinating addition to our very knowledgeable guide, Fabio. Jack and Fabio engaged in conversations about the history and culture of the Mayans that was so stimulating I did not want them to end.
Dear Jack,
I am flattered that you are using my photo of the chile relleno on your blog, but it is NOT from Pico's Restaurant. I created it in my own kitchen in Tacoma WA with a recipe from the chef at Rancho Encantado in Bacalar. I took that photo myself. I sublitted that photo for an article you were about to publish in your previous Mexico magazine, but alas the magazine ceased publication. Of course, I would appreciate it of you would request permission to use my photos on your blog in the future, and if you would give proper photo credit on your blog for the photo you are using (Photo by Allen Cox). As a pro journalist yourself, I'm sure you understand.
Best regards and good luck with your endeavors,
Allen Cox

Allen,
Hi- So sorry to use your picture without your permission. I thought that the picture came from Pico's but obviously I was mistaken.
I have removed it from the website (I would have put up your credit line, but since it was not of Pico's food . . .)
Hope you will continue reading Jack Tyler's Mexico . . . If only to keep an eye on us! :-)
Thanks for letting us know.
Sincerely,
Barbara
